Upper Beaches

Stretching from Coxwell Avenue in the west to Victoria Park in the east, the Upper Beaches was actually never considered part of The Beach neighbourhood of Toronto. The western part of the area was originally called Norway, and the larger area was once part of the Town of East Toronto. The name "Upper Beaches" was first used by developers and real estate agents around the period of 2001 to 2003 for the selling of houses on redeveloped land in the area, and was used as a marketing tag to attract buyers. Today, it’s a tight-knit residential community with tons of variety.

THE STATS (Scored out of 100)

Families priced out of the Beaches might try scooting a few blocks north, to the charming neighbourhood sandwiched between Kingston Road and Gerrard. They’ll find a collection of diverse housing options, from high-rise apartment towers to classic Toronto semis. There’s plenty of friendly green space—mostly in the form of cute corner parkettes with splash pads and off-leash dog areas—and a cluster of cozy cafés and shops on Kingston Road, including local favourite the Beech Tree.
